As someone who primarily sews dresses for women, this is a question I get asked often. While alterations are not my most favorite type of work, it is very clear that Central Maine is lacking in this service. It was not my original goal to become the go-to person for hemming and dress fitting, but I am finding it is a needed service with a clientele waiting for someone to jump in and claim them. So, here I am, ready to provide professional hemming services for every occasion.
Hemming
Yes, I will take your hemming job. I am accepting pants hemming for both women and men. If you are looking to have jeans shortened, I can keep the original hem, or create a completely new hem. I will hem your skirts and summer dresses, short or long. I aim to provide professional hemming services from casual to special occasion clothing.
Will you take it in?
Letting out or taking in seam allowances depends on the piece. I can take a look to see if this is the right adjustment to make your garment fit correctly.
What about Bridal?
What I am not ready for is bridal. Bridal gowns have some additional challenges that I am not ready to take on just yet. I am learning more about the techniques used in bridal alterations and do see this as an addition to my services in the future.
Garment Repair
There will be times when your favorite garment needs a repair. Whether that be replacing a zipper or button, patching a hole, or reinforcing a stress point, I am able to take a look to see if repair is possible to save your clothing! Adding additional beads or sequins to a formal dress is also something I could assist with.
