Do You Take Bridal Alterations-and my (Current) Answer

Do You Take Bridal Alterations?

I receive this question often—and I completely understand why. Brides are eager to have their gowns fitted, hemmed, and perfected for such an important day. Mothers are often searching just as urgently, knowing how few skilled seamstresses are available locally—especially those willing to take on the detailed, high-stakes work that bridal alterations require.

So, do I take bridal alterations?

The short answer is no, not right now.

I’ve only recently returned to working behind my machines, and I’m still settling into the rhythm of running my business from home. At the moment, my workspace is set up in a shared pantry room, which simply isn’t suitable for the kind of private, spacious fittings that bridal work requires.

I’m currently exploring options for growth—whether that’s renting a dedicated studio space or renovating the upstairs of our garage to create a proper sewing studio. Both are exciting possibilities, but they take time to plan and execute. For now, I’ve made the decision to pause on offering bridal alterations.

Could I Take Bridal Alterations with a Larger Space?

Potentially, yes—but space is only part of the equation.

Bridal alterations involve highly specialized techniques: corsetry, intricate lacework, horsehair braid, delicate fabrics, and rows of hand-covered buttons, just to name a few. While I do have experience constructing garments—including a few wedding dresses—altering an existing gown requires a different level of precision and understanding.

Right now, I’m actively building my skills and confidence in these advanced techniques so I can offer this service at the level it truly deserves.

Will You Offer Bridal Alterations in the Future?

Yes—that is absolutely the goal.

I’m working toward offering bridal alterations by the end of the year. However, my priority is to provide high-quality, professional results—not to learn at a bride’s expense. I want every client to feel confident placing their gown in my hands, and that means continuing to refine my skills and deepen my knowledge of high-end bridal construction.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as I grow. I’m excited about what’s ahead—and I look forward to the day I can confidently say “yes” to helping brides prepare for their big day.
